Types of Paints and Their Uses

Owning a house is one of the best achievements you can have in your life but having a home that is well painted is more rewarding. Paint is also considered to be a decoration since it gives your home or any construction for that matter, a sense of attraction.

Basically, there are two major categories of paints though there are a lot of variations to each category. The paint is categorized into two: oil-based and the latex.

A Resiblock paint distributor doesn't only distribute any one of the two but rather both of them. The need for each of these paints depends on the architect or the design of the house and even the budget. There is waterproof coating or even upvc paint but both of them all belong to either of the two major categories.

Oil-Based Paint

This type of paint is popular for its adhesion characteristic. This characteristic only means that the paint has a great grip on the surface. The disadvantages of an oil-based paint are that it gets brittle and tend to oxidize over time. The color of the paint even fades when it is exposed in the sun for a longer time. It is also very difficult to apply but once it is applied, the grip is there and the durability as well.

Oil-based can be applied in most type of materials though it should be pre-treated first when applied to new concrete or stucco. It should not be applied directly to galvanized metal, too. The odor is also noticeable but it dries within eight to twenty-four hours.

Latex Paint

Latex is also known for its excellent adhesion to most substrates and when you talk about elasticity, it is better than an oil-based Acrypol paint. It also has a better resistance to fading and chalking even when exposed to sunlight for a longer period of time. When you apply the paint, it is smoother and goes evenly without the need to brush it harder or drag it.

The use of latex can be applied to any surfaces such as wood, concrete, stucco, galvanized metal, brick and aluminium sliding. When it comes to odor, it produces less to none so it is friendlier in the environment. For the drying part, it can dry within an hour to six with a quick recoating advantage.

These two categories of paint are used according to the need for it. The person who can decide on what to apply is the one who designs the structure. Though these two can be brought easily in the market, having a professional to guide you is still the best way to do so.
